2 THE HOOP 
Located at Sports Courts in Sacramento and under the direction of founder Guss Armstead, To The Hoop has been critical in the career development of more than 200 NBA athletes.

With an emphasis on fundamentals and repetition, Armstead challenges his athletes to compete on and off the court with mindfulness, gratitude, work ethic and best effort.

In addition to on court Instruction, athletes and parents are “coached” to embrace sports and a vehicle to a ‘better tomorrow.’  Each practice and workout consists of building the athletes ability and character on and off the court.

We provide the latest basketball specific strength & conditioning information, concepts, and drills to help players maximize their basketball potential.

Our trainers develop the whole student athlete.  Each must believe and teach that development of an athlete’s character must includes a competent approach to sports performance competition, academics, sports psychology, and the active development of a collegiate future.

Through strategic partnerships and collaborative development, our multiple modalities offer athletes of all levels of ability elite instruction and training by top coaches and practitioners in basketball.

Guss ARMSTEAD |
Founder, CEO

Albert “Guss” Armstead is a Basketball Skills and Development Trainer and Consultant, who is the founder and CEO of To The Hoop Basketball Services.  He is a leading expert in the area of basketball skills development, working in the industry for over 30 years. He is known throughout the world for his organized developmental basketball programs. Armstead customizes his workout programs for NBA Players, European professionals and elite college athletes.   

From Hall of Famer Mitch Richmond to current Indiana Pacers George Hill, his list of clientele is impressive.  Armstead’s development program has produced First Round Draft Picks Ryan Anderson (New Orleans Pelicans), Festus Ezeli  (Golden State Warriors) and LA Clippers Swing Man, Matt Barnes. Over the years he has worked with countless NBA and Oversees professionals.  In addition, Guss has consulted with Olympic teams and Professional Basketball Clubs from around the world, customizing their developmental skills programs.

Guss is a former team Captain and Point Guard and the All-Time leader in Free Throw Percentage for the Sacramento State Hornets. In 2011, along with the 1988 Men’s Basketball Team, he was inducted into the Sacramento State University Hall of Fame.

Guss currently resides in Sacramento, CA with his wife Christa of 27 years. Together they have four children.  Aaron, 25, graduate of San Francisco State University, works for Yelp.  Armond, 23, graduate of USC, Defensive Tackle for the New England Patriots.  Alexis, 22, graduate of The Master’s Commission.  Arik , 20, defensive Lineman for the University of Oregon.

 

Demario BELK  |
Instructor

Demario Belk was born in East St.Louis where he played high school basketball. Belk attended Quicy College and Cosumnes River College where he studied Business Law. After his college career ended, Belk began coaching and training at Nike Youth Summer Camps.  With a high school coaching career that began at Encina High School and includes being head coach at Sacramento Waldorf for seven years.

Belk has also been instrumental with the Sacramento Professional Development Teams that develop NBA players during the off-season.
